A 26-year-old London man is in custody on human trafficking-related charges after a woman told police he encouraged her to perform sex work, advertised her services online, and assaulted her multiple times.

The investigation began in early September after the woman reported that, shortly after starting a relationship with the man, he suggested she engage in sex work and began posting online ads for her services, police said on Friday.

Investigators say that last year between September and December, the suspect sent the woman to various cities to provide sexual services for money.

During their time together, police said, she was assaulted by the man on several occasions.
