BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - One person has died after they were attacked by a dog earlier this week.

According to the Blount County Sheriff’s Office, a dog was being looked after by a friend of the owner when it attacked the friend and two other people who tried to step in and help on Macks Way.

Authorities say the owner of the dog is in the Jefferson County Jail and had been with the friend for almost two months before the attack.

Officials say the dog attacked the sitter when he attempted to walk the dog. A visiting couple tried to get the dog off of the victim before it attacked both visitors as well.

A family member of the friend that was first attacked shot and killed the dog after it disengaged from the attack.
