WESTWOOD — Some were billing Friday night’s clash between Springfield Central and Xaverian as the game of the week, as two of the state’s best collided.

In a battle to remember, Jareth Staine led the Golden Eagles to its biggest win of the season. The junior quarterback went 5-for-8 passing with 146 yards, while adding 59 yards rushing to go with three total touchdowns as Springfield Central defeated a Catholic Conference nemesis, 28-20.

“It always feels good to come out here and win,” Staine said. “I did it my freshman year, we came out here and won. Last year, they came out to us and we won. So it always feels good to play a Catholic Conference team and come out on top.”
