(FOX40.COM)— Modesto is officially recognizing lowrider culture as part of its history. This week, the city signed a proclamation declaring every fourth Saturday of September as Lowrider History Day.

The new holiday launches with its first celebration this Saturday in Downtown Modesto from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend for free.

“It’s official. Where Graffiti started, it’s finally official that Lowrider is a holiday,” said Johnny Garcia with the Stanislaus Latino Chamber of Commerce.

For Garcia, the event is about showcasing more than just cars.
