Recent changes announced by the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District , have opened up their "old car car buyback program" to even more commuters on the Central Coast.
Previously, qualification for the program was limited to vehicles from model year 1997 or older, now vehicles from year 2002 and older can take advantage of the program.
APCD also announced a significant increase in the amount donors received. Previously the program — in operation since 1993 — gave out $1,000, now those who turn in their vehicles will receive $2,200.
"Under this program, people can put that $2,200 toward the purchase of a newer, cleaner car or they can pocket it and take advantage of alternative transportation options like riding the bus or a bicycle,” said APCD Executive Director Aeron A
