SOUTH CAROLINA, USA — State health officials have confirmed another case of measles in South Carolina. It is the state’s fourth case of the virus this year.
The latest case involves an Upstate resident who was not vaccinated against measles. Health officials said the illness is extremely contagious, and the best way to prevent it is with the vaccine.
“Measles is an illness caused by the measles virus. It is spread very easily from person to person by the respiratory droplets of people who are infected,” State Epidemiologist Dr. Linda Bell said.
Symptoms include a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes, followed by a rash that starts on the face and spreads across the body. Officials said measles can be a serious illness, especially for babies, young children, and pregnant women.
