HEWITT, Texas — KCEN’s Game of the Week lived up to the hype Friday night as Harker Heights held off Midway, 24-21, in a hard-fought district opener at Panther Stadium.
The Knights entered the matchup riding a four-game winning streak over the Panthers, but the Midway student section packed the stands hoping to help flip the script. Early on, though, both defenses stole the show as each team stalled on their opening drives.
Midway found momentum late in the first quarter, marching into the red zone, but the Knights came up with a crucial goal-line stand on fourth-and-one to keep the game scoreless. The Panthers responded with another strong drive as quarterback Andrew McNair handed off to running back Lathan Whisenton, who powered into the end zone for his 10th touchdown of the season.
