ANN ARBOR, Mich. - For the first time in school history, the Michigan State men’s soccer team defeated back-to-back top 5 teams with a 2-1 road victory over No. 5 Michigan on Friday at U-M Soccer Stadium. With the win the Big Bear Trophy returns to East Lansing.
The Spartans had possession of the bear that last two years due to draws. In 2022, MSU stopped U-M in East Lansing, 2-0. Michigan State last win in Ann Arbor came in 2017 with a 1-0 overtime victory thanks to a DeJuan Jones golden goal.
With the win, Michigan State improves to 5-4 this season and 2-2 in Big Ten action. Michigan suffers its first loss of the season, falling to 5-1-2 overall and 2-1 in league play. The victory was also the Spartans first road win of the season.
