With thousands of spectators, food trucks and the EMPOWER game featuring students in special education, the annual Bird Bowl between Zeeland East and Zeeland West is as much a community event as it is a high school football game.

And it can be easy for even the most focused football players to get caught up in the pomp and circumstance surrounding the biggest game of the year, but West arrived ready to play, pulling away for a 38-14 win over East on Friday at Zeeland Stadium.
