A Colorado visitor, who learned a hard lesson last week about seafloor shifts in the fall, is trying to find the surfer who pulled him out of danger.
John Grace rented a surfboard to try at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas last Friday and fell face-first into a wave, causing serious injuries. He was pulled out by a surfer, who he is now trying to locate.
On social media, Grace said he was facedown in the water and could not turn himself. He credits the surfer for saving his life.
Grace, who posted a gnarly "after" photo on his Facebook page and returned home to Colorado with a story he won’t soon forget, was in town for the weekend.
