: The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), led by Hagrama Mohilary, has returned to power in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, marking a dramatic revival of Mohilary’s political leadership after five years in the wilderness.
The BPF secured a majority of seats, positioning itself to form the next BTC government. By late Friday night (September 26, 2025), the party was leading in 21 of the autonomous council’s 40 seats, more than 12 hours after counting began at 8 a.m. Officials of the State Election Commission said the final results are expected by Saturday morning.
The elections, held on September 22, saw the BPF challenging the ruling coalition of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the regional Gana Suraksha Party.
The BTC governs the
