HOLLISTER — An investigation is underway into the “unexpected death” of a 9-month-old infant in Hollister, police said.

The Hollister Police Department said it received an emergency call around 7:50 a.m. Thursday, reporting an unresponsive infant with no pulse and no signs of breathing.

Officers arrived at the undisclosed address to find the infant unconscious, not breathing and without a pulse, police said.

The infant was taken to an area hospital, where they were pronounced dead, police said.

Police said it appeared the infant was sleeping on a couch before being found unresponsive by a family member.
