WHITTIER — La Serna trailed most of the game against visiting Edison on Friday, but the final seconds were all that mattered.

Lancers quarterback Grady Long completed an 11-yard touchdown pass to Landon Armenta in the corner of the endzone with four seconds left to lift them to a 23-21 victory to close out their non-league schedule with a major victory over one of Orange County’s top squads.

“It was just a play called to just get to the endzone and he just threw it and he knew I was in there,” said Armenta, of the go-ahead score.

With 1:51 remaining in the game and trailing, 21-16, the Lancers drove the ball nearly 60 yards for the go-ahead score led by Long, with his arm and his legs to help even La Serna’s record to 3-3. The victory gave Edison (4-2) its second loss.
