EL CENTRO — The City of El Centro will celebrate a major investment in local recreation with a groundbreaking ceremony for the $5.7 million Gomez Park project on Wednesday, October 1, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 901 S. Hope Street.
Funded through a Proposition 68 grant, the project represents the largest park grant the city has ever received. Officials say the full reconstruction of Gomez Park will create a modern, inclusive community space designed to support recreation, wellness, and family activities for residents of all ages.
Planned improvements to the park include two multi-sport courts with lighting, all-inclusive playgrounds, an adult exercise area, and a restroom and snack bar facility. The design also features shaded picnic ramadas, a pavilion with a walking path and senior exerci
