It's officially National Pancake Day , and several breakfast chains across Illinois are offering deals on their shortstacks to celebrate.

National Pancake Day is on Friday, Sept. 26.

The holiday started in 2005 as Lumberjack Day, a day set aside as "an excuse to eat pancakes and waffles with friends," by friends Marianne Ways , a talent booker, and author Collen AF Venable , according to the National Day Calendar website.
