Real Madrid will face a major test on Saturday, Sept, 27, when the La Liga powerhouse visits city rival Atlético Madrid for the next chapter in one of Europe's biggest rivalries.

While Real Madrid's long-running battle with Barcelona is a global phenomenon, the derby between Madrid's two biggest clubs deserves serious respect. Real — under new head coach Xabi Alonso — has started the season off perfectly, winning all six of its Spanish league matches and claiming a 2-1 victory over Marseille in the UEFA Champions League.

Superstar Kylian Mbappé is leading La Liga with seven goals, while Real has conceded just four goals across their seven competitive games (posting three shutouts). The early success has Real sitting pretty atop the table after six rounds of games.

Atlético's start to the campaign has been a bit more difficult, with longtime head coach Diego Simeone's side sitting in ninth place in La Liga with a 2W-3D-1L record. A team built around defensive solidity has conceded multiple goals in three different games, slowing their attempts to challenge at the top of the table. That said, Atlético has improved recently, downing Villarreal and Rayo Vallecano in two recent home games sandwiching an away draw at Mallorca.
