A man has been charged with murder following the discovery of a body in a derelict building. The victim, Junior Ryan Coleman, was reported missing on August 20. His body was located by police on September 19 during a search related to the missing person investigation.
The Metropolitan Police stated that officers were conducting their search at approximately 8.17am in Brockley Road, Lewisham. A post-mortem examination determined that Mr Coleman died from blunt force trauma to the head. Consequently, a murder investigation was initiated on September 20.
Daniel Watkis, 39, from Glenarm Road in Hackney, was arrested on Thursday and subsequently charged on Friday. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on October 24. Meanwhile, Mr Coleman’s family is receiving support from specialist officers.
Detective Chief Inspector Sam Townsend, who is leading the investigation, expressed condolences to Mr Coleman’s family and friends. He stated, "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Junior during this difficult time. My team are working at pace to establish the exact circumstances of Junior’s disappearance and his murder."
The police are appealing for anyone who knew Mr Coleman to come forward, particularly those who may have seen him during the summer months. They urge anyone with information, regardless of how insignificant it may seem, to contact them.
