The Foliage Forecast from Explore Fall is showing areas of high color in parts of northern Maine, northern New Hampshire and Vermont, with a few pockets of peak color peppered in.

The leaves are starting to change and drop in some areas across New England. But it’s not the recent cooler weather, it’s actually due to the dry weather stressing out the trees.

We’re beginning to see the leaf color change about a week or so ahead of schedule on average due to tree stress and severe -- even extreme -- drought conditions in northern parts of the region.
