For nearly two years since the hotly contested November 2023 referendum in which Flagstaff voters overwhelmingly rejected the planned relocation of Flagstaff Medical Center (FMC), questions about the future of the city’s hospital have simmered in the background.

Now, it seems the debate is heating up once again: in remarks at the Flagstaff City Council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 23, Councilmember Austin Aslan publicly called on Northern Arizona Healthcare (NAH) to modernize the hospital in place -- but also urged the public to accept significant modifications to the current site, like taller buildings or changes to surrounding roads.
