Iurge my fellow Pennsylvanians to contact their federal representatives to oppose a scheme to reduce the ability of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to protect our air from pollution.
Pennsylvania is home to Donora, Pa., whose history makes the case to support the “endangerment finding,” which provides the rationale for the EPA. In October 1948, 20 people died and 7,000 people were sickened because of the air pollution that hung over the town of Donora.
As a result, Allegheny County passed the first clean air regulations over the objections of many. The county and its residents acted to curb the pollution because they realized it was a serious public health issue and not a trade-off for jobs.
