SHELBY — Stuart Cramer football one day hopes to be recognized in the same breath as teams such as Shelby, a perennial powerhouse with ample NCHSAA state titles to back its claim. On Friday, Sept. 26, however, the Golden Lions provided a sample of what it takes to perform at a championship level.

In a matchup featuring two of the three unbeaten teams in Southern Piedmont 2A/3A/4A play, Shelby earned a hard-fought 51-29 victory over Stuart Cramer.

“First thing I have to say is, Stuart Cramer is a good football team,” said Shelby football coach Mike Wilbanks. “This is our first time playing them, and I can’t say what they were or were not before this season, but I can tell you that is a good football team over there.
