OKLAHOMA CITY — On Sept. 24, Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters announced he will be stepping down from the Oklahoma Department of Education.

Walters, who was elected the state superintendent in November 2022, has been embroiled in multiple controversies since he took office, including his requirement that Bibles be included in the school curriculum .

Another incident from August 2025 saw Walters accused of displaying explicit images on his office television during a Board of Education meeting. After an investigation from the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, officials say the images were from a 1985 action movie called Jackie Chan: The Protector.
