Police are seeking information following a shocking incident in Littleborough, Rochdale, where a car was deliberately set ablaze, endangering a mother and her child who were asleep inside their home. The attack occurred on Cleggswood Avenue at approximately 1.15am on September 6.

According to Greater Manchester Police, the vehicle was parked on the driveway, directly outside the front door of the house. The fire quickly spread to the front of the property. Fortunately, the family was alerted by the car alarm, allowing them to escape safely with their pets.

Detectives have described the incident as a "terrifying and deliberate attack" that could have resulted in tragedy. A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of stalking and conspiracy to commit arson, but he has since been released on bail pending further investigations.

Police believe the vehicle used by the perpetrator approached from Hollingworth Road and left in the same direction. They have released an image of a vehicle they believe may hold crucial information regarding the case.

DC Mel Jeffery from the Rochdale division stated, "The trauma they’ve experienced is unimaginable. They are safe, but shaken and deeply affected by what happened. We believe this was a targeted incident, and while there is no wider threat to the public, we are determined to find those responsible."

Authorities are urging residents and businesses in the area to review their CCTV, doorbell footage, or dashcam recordings from the time of the incident. They are particularly interested in any unusual activity that may have been observed.
