Fourth quarters and Pitt football just don’t seem to mix well.
The Panthers spent two weeks stewing over their loss to West Virginia, using the bye to regroup, get healthier and refocus for ACC play. That showed for a while against Louisville, but once again their opponent got the upper hand toward the end, handing Pitt a 34-27 loss in the conference opener Saturday at Acrisure Stadium.
Pitt was leading by 10 points heading into the second half — after leading 17-0 to open the matchup. They had a very strong offensive presence in the first quarter that seemed to fizzle out the longer the game went, and the Cardinals capitalized on key plays. Despite having the lead for a majority of the game, Pat Narduzzi’s squad once again fell flat when it mattered.
Fast start, but then ...
