The Detroit Lions have placed safety and key special teams contributor Daniel Thomas on injured reserve ahead of their matchup with the Cleveland Browns, the team announced on Saturday.

After playing through a broken hand suffered in Week 1, Thomas has been dealing with a forearm injury that required surgery, resulting in a stint on injured reserve.

The six-year veteran spent five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars before being signed by the Lions at roster cutdowns and instantly earning playing time on special teams.

Thomas — a 2020 fifth-round draft pick out of Auburn — has played nine snaps on defense in Week 2 and 50 snaps on special teams through the first three weeks.
