One of Chicago's most classic ice cream institutions is opening a new location in the heart of the city.

The Original Rainbow Cone, a century old Chicago staple known for its signature five-flavor combo, is opening a new shop at 163 North Michigan Avenue on Monday, Sept. 29.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 9:45 a.m. Monday.

The classic Rainbow Cone features chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (vanilla with cherries and walnuts), and pistachio almond ice cream topped with orange sherbert.

In addition to their classic cone, the location will also serve multi-flavored "sliced creations," hand-spun milkshakes, made-to-order mini donuts, ice cream cakes, sundaes and more.
