A toll plaza in suburban Chicago was shut down Saturday afternoon after a fiery fatal crash on I-90, authorities said.

Around 3:18 p.m. Saturday, the driver of an SUV driving eastbound on I-90 near IL Route 31 in suburban Almora crossed onto the shoulder of the highway and struck a parked tractor semi-trailer, authorities said.

At approximately 3:36 p.m., authorities shut down toll plaza 9 on eastbound I-90 for a crash investigation. The mainline remained open, state police said.

It was not immediately known why the driver of the SUV crossed onto the shoulder, authorities said.
