A 64-year-old man is now accused of killing his wife in Newcastle – east of Bowmanville – earlier this month.

Durham Regional Police say officers responded to “an unknown trouble call” at a home in the area of Farrow Ave. and Hwy. 2 shortly after 9 a.m. on Sept. 16.

Officers located a woman suffering from “obvious signs of trauma” and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman has been identified as Marilyn Stevens, 62, of Newcastle.

Her husband was taken into custody “without incident” on Friday.

In a statement released Saturday, police said Scott Stevens, 64, of Newcastle, has been charged with first-degree murder.

He was held for a bail hearing.
