ORONO, Maine — From the ice rink to the turf field, the University of Maine is investing in its athletic future with a series of facility upgrades aimed at enhancing performance, boosting recruiting, and improving the fan experience.
Among the upgrades are a newly renovated Shawn Walsh Hockey Center and Harold Alfond Sports Arena and the New Balance Track & Field and Soccer Complex.
The opening caps a multi-year construction process funded by a combination of public and private support. A total of $75 million was invested into the facilities—$48 million for the hockey complex and $27.3 million for the track and soccer complex.
