GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Greenville’s 50501 hosted a local outreach event Saturday afternoon to help those less fortunate in the community.

The ‘Save the Homeless’ rally, drive, and donation pickup was held on Tenth and Evans Street to support the community. Canned goods, personal hygiene products, clothes, and other necessities were available for those in need.

One of the women who helped advertise and gather donations, Bethany Smith, said she received about 100 donations for the drive and that more than 20 people stopped by to take advantage of the resources.

“Most of it has thankfully gone to use,” Smith told WITN. She recalled handing flyers to a woman staying at a local shelter. “She came out today and brought other people from the shelter.”
