PHILADELPHIA -- Ranger Suárez got up, and rather quickly smiled and laughed.
He was OK. But Suárez left Saturday's 5-0 loss against Minnesota at Citizens Bank Park in the fifth inning because of a “left, inner-thigh contusion.” The loss locked the Phillies into the No. 2 seed in the NL playoffs.
Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers ripped a 106 mph line drive off Suarez’s upper thigh. Suárez stumbled, picked up the ball and made an off-balance throw to first.
The momentum from the throw on the mound took Suárez to the ground, but he quickly rolled over and got up. He almost immediately started laughing with Phillies second baseman Bryson Stott.
It could have been worse.
Suárez left the field under his own power, accompanied by team trainers.
