One woman was killed and a man in the same vehicle was critically injured in a crash in Courtenay Friday afternoon, prompting BC Emergency Health Services to dispatch an air ambulance.

“Police were called to a motor vehicle crash in Courtenay at 1:12 p.m. Unfortunately a 63-year-old woman died at the scene. She was the passenger, and the driver was flown out to hospital where he’s in critical but stable condition at this time,” said Comox Valley RCMP Const. Monika Terragni.

It happened on 19A at Comox Road where there’s a bend in the road.

A witness told CHEK News the vehicle went out of the lane of traffic at a high rate of speed, into the left turn lane approaching Comox Road before going into ditch and then airborne before landing upside down on two vehicles in a used car lot.
