Hardy was one of the last surviving members of the Tuskegee Airmen. They were the first Black service members to serve as pilots in the U.S. military during World War II. Hardy was born in Philadelphia in 1925 and attended South Philadelphia High School. The Pennsylvania General Assembly, in June, honored Hardy and designated June 8 as Lieutenant Colonel George Hardy Day in Pennsylvania.
