DENVER (KDVR) — A third hunter has died in the San Juan National Forest Wilderness Area, according to the Conejos County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said Saturday that a 54-year-old man died after the agency received "a call for help" from hunters in the South San Juan Wilderness Area.

The call came in around 11:23 p.m. on Friday in a "remote area" in the wilderness and CPR was taking place, according to the sheriff's office.

The Conejos County Search and Rescue Team was immediately deployed. The Conejos County agency said when responders arrived it was determined the man had died.

The sheriff's office said that the nighttime conditions were deemed unsafe for a recovery mission. On Saturday, teams and a Flight for Life helicopter returned to the area and recovered the man's
