Oklahoma is hosting its first karaoke championship this weekend, giving singers from across the state the chance to compete for a national stage.
More than 50 contestants are performing at Thunderbird Casino, hoping to be one of nine finalists selected to advance to the United States Karaoke Contest in Las Vegas this November.
The event comes after Duncan Wallace, last year’s national champion in Las Vegas, pushed to bring a chapter of the competition to Oklahoma.
One of the competitors, Sharon Coons, said the experience has been both fun and rewarding.
“It’s been fun. It’s been challenging, and it’s kept my mind going,” she said.
The competition runs through Sunday, with finalists announced at the conclusion of the weekend. Organizers say the goal is to showcase local talent and give
