University of Toledo Medical Center has been recognized as one of the top 10 socially responsible acute care hospitals in Ohio.

UTMC received the A ranking from the 2025 Lown Hospital Index, which was introduced six years ago. It adds to a spectrum of health rankings published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, U.S. News & World Report, The Leapfrog Group, and Healthgrades.

The Lown Institute’s methodology is unique in applying measures to community investment, medical overuse, and CEO pay.

“All of these have some merits,” said Charles Callahan, executive vice president for health affairs and CEO of UToledo Health, of the ranking systems available to hospitals. “None of them are perfect, but they are all useful. They address different things.”
