ATCHISON, Kan. (KCTV) - Federal authorities have ordered the release of long-classified records related to the 1937 disappearance of aviation pioneer Amelia Earhart, rekindling worldwide curiosity about one of history’s greatest unsolved mysteries.

The announcement is sparking excitement in Earhart’s hometown of Atchison, where the Amelia Earhart Hangar Museum preserves her legacy and welcomes guests throughout the year.

“Historians and Amelia enthusiasts are certainly going to be wanting to see those (documents),” said Mindi Love Pendergraft, the museum’s executive director. “People have been searching for her since that fateful day, July 2, 1937.”

Museum guests said they’re eager to learn whether the newly released documents contain answers.
