The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai, warning of extremely heavy rainfall on Sunday. The alert also covers Thane, Raigad, and Palghar, as the Konkan coast braces for a prolonged wet spell.
On Saturday, Mumbai experienced persistent overcast skies and intermittent rain. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the island city recorded 30.07 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8 am. The eastern suburbs received 26.12 mm, while the western suburbs saw 9.99 mm during the same period.
Despite the showers, road traffic remained largely unaffected across the city. However, local train services reported minor delays, which are common during spells of heavy rain.
Airlines have issued a travel advisory to travellers urging them to plan
