What became clear during the latest shuffling of homeless people is that Tulsans weren’t talking to one another. It was a missed opportunity that caused setbacks but can now be fixed and fortified.

What comes next has potential to do more than build a city-led infrastructure of housing supports for people facing homelessness. It can show that civic engagement works, restoring faith in public-led efforts and government.

It starts with everyone, from upset business executives to outreach workers, getting in a room regularly to share information, progress, frustrations and needs. No more making assumptions about what is or isn’t happening. This isn’t a one-time summit; it’s about consistent contact.
