If you ask Yankees fans (and probably a lot of others), the Astros now are baseball’s modern-day evil empire, not their team.

The Yankees will be back in the playoffs as a wild card or division champ, but they won’t get a chance to get some revenge for being ousted by Houston in the 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2022 postseasons, a couple of them with after-the-fact cheating accusations.

On the penultimate day of the regular season, the Astros’ run of eight consecutive postseasons ended Saturday when the Tigers won to clinch at least a wild-card berth by day and the Guardians did the same by night.

There’s still a lot to decide on Sunday when the first pitch for game 162 for all 30 clubs is in the 3 p.m., EST hour.
