Belagavi: A man had a narrow escape after being swept away by strong water currents while crossing a flooded stretch of road on his bike near Godachi village in Ramdurg taluk.

Due to heavy rains lashing the Western Ghats region, the Malaprabha River has been overflowing, prompting authorities to issue high alerts in surrounding areas. Despite warnings, the biker attempted to cross the road when a powerful water stream suddenly dragged both him and his bike away.

Alert villagers quickly sprang into action, using a rope to pull the man to safety, preventing what could have been a fatal accident.

Continuous heavy rainfall across Belagavi district has turned roads, streams, and bridges into gushing waterways, severely disrupting public movement and posing a risk to commuters.
