Now that I’ve been at the Index-Journal for just over a month, I’ve had the chance to settle in, reconnect with the Greenwood community and grow as a journalist. This feels like the perfect moment to pause, reflect and share some of the key lessons I’ve learned since returning to the place that has shaped me.
With football season underway, I’ve gotten to know the coaches around the Lakelands —learning their unique styles and how they run their programs. The first game I covered was at Emerald, and head coach Tad DuBose immediately made me feel welcome. Knowing it was my first time reporting on a high school football game, DuBose and the Emerald staff went out of their way to treat me like family — something I deeply appreciated and will never forget.
