PAGELAND, S.C. (WBTV) - A 9-year-old died in a shooting Sunday morning in Pageland, according to the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting happened in a convenience store parking lot along Highway 9.

According to the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office, several people have been detained and are being interviewed at the sheriff’s office, along with witnesses.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Deputies said there is no danger to the community.

The Pageland Police Department, McBee Police Department, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Crime Scene Unit, and the SLED Child Fatality Unit are assisting in the investigation.
