HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman is dead after a fire broke out at a nursing home overnight in the Independence Heights area, according to the Houston Police Department.

The fire started at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the facility off Janisch in the city's northwest side. Authorities said the fire began in the victim's room.

While officials have not disclosed additional information, Eyewitness News was on scene when the victim's family was heard yelling and demanding the fire department shut down the facility.
