Jonjo Shelvey has completed a surprise switch to the United Arab Emirates' third tier.

The midfielder has joined Dubai-based Arabian Falcons, who are managed by fellow Englishman Harry Agombar.

Shelvey made his debut for his new side on Saturday in their first match of the new league season.

It was his first competitive appearance since starting for Burnley against Preston in the FA Cup fifth round back in March.

He even played a key role in one of their goals as they played out a 3-3 draw with Baynounah.

The 33-year-old's deep corner was turned into the back of the net after a team-mate headed it back across the penalty area.

Arabian Falcons were only founded in 2023 before earning promotion from the fourth tier in their debut campaign.
