The Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board reviewed a slate of policy updates at its Sept. 23 meeting, ranging from police and Department of Child Safety interviews on campus to rules around assessments, athletics and employment authority.

All five policies were presented for a first read only, meaning no final action was taken.

Among the changes, the board looked at Policy 5-410 on interscholastic athletics, which requires automated external defibrillators on every high school campus and at all athletic events beginning in August 2026.

Superintendent Shane McCord called AEDs the big addition to the policy.

An AED will be on each school campus and at each school-sponsored athletic event, including all practices, trainings and competitions.
