LIBERTY, Mo. —

A high school homecoming dance in Liberty was shut down Saturday night after a fight broke out.

The Liberty School District said several balloons popped during the chaos, leading some people to believe shots had been fired inside the dance. Advertisement

The district and police confirmed no gun was found at the school.

Police detained several students during the incident, who were later released to their parents.

In a letter to families, Liberty High School Principal Dr. Mike Sharp said counselors will be available on campus Sunday to support students.

Those who left belongings behind can pick them up at the main office.
