SOUTHPORT, N.C. — A Piedmont Triad woman says she narrowly missed being caught in the deadly shooting at a Southport waterfront restaurant that left three people dead and at least five others injured Saturday night.

Carrie Alston said she and friends had been sitting by the water at Provision Company just an hour before the shooting at the American Fish Company.

“It is tragic what took place, lives were lost, injured, and now mentally and emotionally fractured, for years to come,” Alston said in a statement. “It could’ve been us. One minute we were back in our room playing a game and the next thing we know, we were receiving messages from family members.”
