BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - A beautiful day at Broadway Park saw hundreds of people walk and run to support safe and continual care for survivors.

St Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor held its 7th annual Commit to Community 5K/10K earlier today.

The race saw nearly 1,000 pre-registrations as well as around 140 volunteers.

This event serves as a crucial fundraiser for the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) program at St Joes, which provides 24-hour comprehensive care for survivors of sexual assault.

Race director Brad Ryder says that these fundraising events wouldn’t be possible without the Bangor community coming together.

“7 years ago, if we had a few hundred people, that would have been successful, and it’s grown each year, getting better and better,” says Ryder.
