Residents in the Triad can expect to see rain starting out the week but more severe impacts are becoming less likely as a tropical storm churning in the Atlantic is projected to move away from the coast.

An update from the National Weather Service’s Raleigh office late Sunday morning showed the storm system known as Tropical Depression Nine trending to the south and east away from the East Coast over the course of the next few days.

The storm will take the name Imelda if it strengthens.

The NWS is forecasting rainfall totals of less than one inch for Greensboro, Winston-Salem and most other parts of the Triad through Tuesday evening.
